Construction on two Big Sioux River Bridges on South Highway 77 to Begin March 4th

Construction on the two Big Sioux River bridges on South Highway 77 in Brookings County is scheduled to start on Monday, March 4, 2019.

The bridges are located on County Road 77 (471st Avenue) near the intersection of County Highway 20 (220th Street) south of Brookings.  Both bridges will be replaced during the construction period. The hope was that the bridges would be completed by November 1, but with the Big Sioux being above flood stage most of the summer and continuing above flood stage, construction will continue on into November.

County Highway 77 will be closed to all through traffic from the intersection of Brookings County Highway 24 (217th Street) to the intersection of 223rd Street in Moody County.  The detour route is Interstate 29 from SD Highway 324 (Elkton/Sinai exit) to 223rd Street (Nunda/Ward exit).

If there are issues with the signage or traffic control along the detour, please contact Matt Prahm with Prahm Construction: cell 507-626-0115 or office 507-836-1063.

Any other questions can be directed to the DOT at 605-688-5001.
