Coordination Against Disaster

The department coordinates all agencies within the jurisdiction to include public, private, and non-governmental organizations to ensure the protection of life and property in the event of threatened or actual natural disasters, terrorism, technological, or man-made events.(click on image)

Emergency Management Responsibilities
  • Develops and maintains the county plan for reacting to emergencies
  • During an actual emergency, the director coordinates the action
  • Trains other agencies to respond to emergencies

Brookings County Pandemic Influenza & Infectious Diseases Response Plan v2.2

Free Tdap and Meningococcal Vaccines for 11-18 year olds on August 10, 2016 at the Swiftel Center in Brookings.

[Brookings, SD] July 14, 2016:  Brookings Area Points of Dispensing (POD) will be providing free Tdap and Meningococcal vaccines on Wednesday, August 10, 2016 (one day only) from 2-7 P.M. at the Swiftel Center(824 32nd Ave.) in Brookings for 11-18 year olds.  No appointments are necessary.  Parents must be present.

2016-17 school entry vaccine requirements for South Dakota 6th grade students and transfer students include:
One dose of tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis (Tdap) vaccine on or after the 11th birthday
One dose of meningococcal (MCV4) vaccine on or after the 11th birthday
The requirements apply only for 6th grade entry and transfer students 6th–12th grade
If a child is 10 years old when entering the 6th grade they have 45 days after their 11th birthday to be vaccinated

Parents are encouraged to talk with their medical provider or the Community Health office at 688-5802 about vaccine recommendations.  

This event is provided by the Brookings Area Points of Dispensing (POD) group.  Which is a collaboration of the Brookings Health System, Brookings County, SD Department of Health/Community Health, City of Brookings, Brookings School District, South Dakota State University, and others.
