Media Release - April 25, 2017

Vehicle Fire

Reported: Tuesday, 04/25/17 @ 1710
Location: 3200 Blk Western Ave. S. (Rural Brookings)

On the above date and time the Brookings Fire Dept., and Brookings County Sheriff’s Office responded to a vehicle on fire at the above location. It was found that the vehicle had been parked at a residence and the auto start button had been pressed from inside the residence before the driver was going to leave. When the driver went outside he noticed smoke coming from the engine compartment and then called and reported it. The Brookings Fire Dept. extinguished the flames. The vehicle a 2006 Nissan Pathfinder valued at $9,000.00 is a complete loss. The fire is under investigation with the Brookings County Sheriff’s Office.

Attempted break in
Reported: Monday, 04/24/17 at 2117
Location: 300 Blk of Kelsey St. (Elkton, SD)

On the above date and time a resident of Elkton reported finding pry marks on the door of their home. They advised that someone attempted to break in on Monday, 04/24/17 between 10:30a.m. and 6:30p.m. Entry to the residence was unsuccessful. The amount of damage to the door is unknown at this time. Theft
Reported: Friday, 04/21/17 at 0600
Location: 400 Blk of Jefferson Ave. (Volga, SD)

On the above date and time a resident of Volga reported that someone entered their 2014 Ford F150 that was parked outside in their driveway of the residence. The vehicle was unlocked and a pink Rebeca Scott purse valued at $120.00 was stolen from the vehicle. The purse contained a wallet, a wristlet purse, a checkbook, credit cards, and a medicine bottle with prescription drugs. The theft occurred sometime between Thursday, 04/20/17 at 1800 to when it was noticed on Friday, 04/21/17 at 0600. Underage party

Reported: Saturday, 04/22/17 at 2350.
Location: Rural Brookings, SD.

On the above date and time the Brookings County Sheriff’s Office conducted a traffic stop near 200th St. on 471st Ave. The occupants in the vehicle were under the age of 21 and found to have consumed alcohol. They were issued citations for underage consumption. The residence from where the occupants were drinking at was located. The South Dakota Hwy Patrol and Brookings County Sheriff’s Office responded to that residence. Several subjects under the age of 21 were located at the residence. 19 year old Kade Anthony Shriver of Brookings was hosting the underage drinking party and was arrested for common nuisance.

Driver: Francisco Javier Gonzalez Garcia age: 42
Brookings
Vehicle: 1997 Ford Explorer Total loss

The vehicle was westbound on 201st Street. The driver lost control of the vehicle on the gravel road, entered the south ditch and collided with the culverts. The driver was treated and released at the scene by the Brookings ambulance and Bruce First Responders. The driver is being charged with DUI, No valid driver’s license, open container in a motor vehicle, No Insurance, Substitution of License Plates and Careless Driving.

On the above date and time a resident in the City of Aurora reported that she was walking on Broadway in Aurora, SD and found an undisclosed amount of cash. There was no identification or information about who the owner of it was. The cash is being held at the Brookings County Sheriff’s Office. Fire
Reported: Friday, 03/31/17 @ 1820
Location: Bridge on 472nd Ave. near 218th St. (Rural Brookings, SD)

On the above date and time the Brookings County Sheriff’s Office responded to a bridge that was on fire at the above location. Upon arrival the deputy found a moderate amount of smoke rising from the middle of the bridge. Some fabric was found on the fire. The Brookings Fire Dept. responded and put the fire out. The bridge is owned by Brookings County. The amount of damage is unknown at this time. Seven suspects ages 15 to 19 have been identified and charges are pending.

Hit and Run

Location: 204th St. along shore of East Oakwood Lake.

On the above date and time the Brookings County Sheriff’s Office responded to the above location to take a hit and run accident. It was found that the owner of 2002 Honda Accord had parked his vehicle at the above location while fishing. At one point he heard a loud bang and when he returned to his vehicle he noticed that it had been struck by another vehicle, causing an estimated $1,200.00 worth of damage. The suspect vehicle was a white Ford F150 with black trim. Burglary

On the above date and time the Brookings County Sheriff’s Office took a report of a burglary in the 200 blk of Hull St. in Aurora. It was found that entry was gained to the residence through the back door. No one was home at the time of the burglary. A white gold necklace that had two heart shaped pendants with a single diamond in the middle valued at $250.00 was stolen from the residence. The burglary occurred on the above date between the hours of 0915 to 1120. Driver 2: Ileene Peterson Age: 78

Injured Passenger: Darrell Demaray Age: 79
Nunda, SD
Vehicle 2: 2010 GMC Terrain SLT Damage: $9,000.00

On the above date and time Sinai First Responders, Volga First Responders, Brookings Ambulance, and the Brookings County Sheriff’s Office responded to a two vehicle injury accident at the intersection of 216th St. and 464th Ave. It was found that 24 year old Remington Miller was traveling westbound on 216th St. and was required to stop for the stop sign as the intersection is posted for the east and westbound traffic to stop. 78 year old Ileen Peterson was traveling northbound on 464th Ave. and collided with the vehicle driven by 24 year old Remington Miller. Remington was issued a citation for a stop sign violation.
78 year old Ileen Peterson was transported by the Brookings Ambulance to the Brookings Hospital with unknown injuries. 79 year old Darrell Demaray who was a passenger in Ileen’s vehicle was also transported to the Brookings Hospital by a private party with a possible injury. The accident is under investigation with the Brookings County Sheriff’s Office.

Theft from motor vehicle

On the above date and time two residents from the City of Aurora that live in the 100 Blk. of Front St. reported that their vehicles had been gone through. One of the residents had three vehicles gone through and an undisclosed amount of cash was taken. The other resident advised that one of their vehicles was gone through and a key was the only thing missing. All of the vehicles were unlocked. On the above date and time the Brookings County Sheriff’s Office responded to an injury accident at the above location. It was found that 18 year old Kyle Jensen was traveling east on 212th St. where he lost control of the vehicle. The vehicle entered the north ditch where it collided with a field approach that had concrete culverts going through it. Kyle was transported to the Brookings Hospital with unknown injuries. The accident is under investigation with the Brookings County Sheriff’s Office.

Fatality Accident

Location: 465th Ave.1/2 N of 207th St.

Driver: Barry Gene Huisken Age: 41
Bruce, SD

Vehicle: 1997 GMC Suburban Damage: Total Loss

On the above date and time the Volga Fire Dept., Brookings Ambulance, South Dakota Hwy Patrol, and Brookings County Sheriff’s Office responded to a one vehicle rollover accident at the above location. It was found that the 1997 GMC Suburban driven by 41 year old Barry Huisken was traveling south on 465th Ave. about a ½ mile north of 207th St. when it entered the west ditch, the vehicle then rolled striking a tree stump. The driver was not wearing his seat belt and was ejected from the vehicle, where he passed away from injuries sustained at the scene. The accident is under investigation with the Brookings County Sheriff’s Office.

On the above date and time the Estelline Fire Dept., Estelline Ambulance, and Brookings County Sheriff’s Office responded to a two vehicle injury accident at the above location. It was found that vehicle 1 was traveling southbound and hit an icy patch in the roadway. The driver lost control of the vehicle and struck a metal cable guardrail and cement bridge rail and came to rest across a lane of traffic. Vehicle 2 was traveling southbound and due to the icy road conditions could not switch lanes and struck the rear passenger side of vehicle 1. Both drivers were transported to the Brookings Hospital by the Estelline Ambulance with unknown injuries. The accident is under investigation with the Brookings County Sheriff’s Office.

Location: Just south of 196th St. on 475th Ave. (Rural Toronto, SD)

Driver: Gavin Tyler Howell Age: 31 (Volga, SD)

Vehicle: 2002 Ford Windstar Van Damage: Total loss

On the above date and time the White Ambulance, and Brookings County Sheriff’s Office responded to the above location for a one vehicle injury accident. It was found that the vehicle had been traveling northbound on 475th Ave. when it entered the east ditch and rolled. The driver walked to a nearby residence and the owner of the residence reported the accident. The driver 31 year old Gavin Tyler Howell of Volga, SD was transported by the White Ambulance to the Brookings Hospital Emergency Room with unknown injuries. Alcohol was found to be a factor and Gavin was arrested for DUI 2nd, driving with a revoked driver’s license, poss. of a revoked driver’s license, careless driving, open alcoholic container in a motor vehicle, and a seatbelt violation. The accident is under investigation with the Brookings County Sheriff’s Office.

It was found that an unknown suspect or suspects entered the shed sometime between Thursday, 02/16/17 to when it was noticed on Monday, 02/20/17. The suspect or suspects stole a Ruger .22 cal. Revolver valued at $400.00, a fold up buck knife, .22 ammo, and .17 HMR ammo. Injury accident

Reported: Sunday, 02/19/17 @ 2218
Location: 1100 Blk of W. 44th St. S. (Rural Brookings, SD).

Driver: Kortney Lee Bangs Age: 22
Brookings, SD
Vehicle: 2005 Chevy Trailblazer Damage: Total loss

On the above date and time Brookings Ambulance, and the Brookings County Sheriff’s Office responded to a one vehicle rollover accident at the above location. It was found that the vehicle was traveling east when it went off the south side of the road just prior to a bridge. The vehicle struck a sign and rode along the top edge of the bridge before coming off of the bridge on the east side. The vehicle then rolled into the south ditch striking a barb wire fence and coming to rest against a metal gate. The driver 22 year old Kortney Lee Bangs was transported to the Brookings Hospital by the Brookings Ambulance with unknown injuries. Alcohol is believed to be a factor and Kortney was arrested for DUI 2nd. The accident is under investigation with the Brookings County Sheriff’s Office.

Vehicle burglary.

On the above date and time the Brookings County Sheriff’s Office took reports of unlocked vehicles being entered in the 300 Blk of Nicolett St. in Aurora, SD. It is believed that the vehicle entries occurred on 02/18/17 between the hours of 0200 to 0300. 1 pair of Oakley sunglasses, and 1 pair Under Armor sunglasses valued at $200.00 were stolen from one vehicle, a Simmons Binoculars (unk power), with a case valued at $50.00 was stolen from a vehicle, and a credit card and an undisclosed amount of cash was stolen from another vehicle. On the above date and time the Brookings County Sheriff’s Office took a report of a hit and run accident at the above location. The victim reported that they had parked their 2006 Pontiac passenger car on the street at about 7p.m. on 2/11/17. When they left the next morning at 10a.m. they noticed damage to the driver’s side rear passenger door. The damage is estimated at $1,400.00. Suspicious person/vehicle
Reported: Tuesday, 02/14/17 @ 1820
Location: Hansina Ave. & 4th St. near Sioux Valley School in Volga, SD.

On the above date and time parents of a 12 year old boy reported that a male subject in an older black van, with dark tinted windows and sliding back doors had approached him as he was walking to a friend’s house. The driver of the van only rolled the passenger side window down a couple of inches and told the 12 year old that his dad had called him and asked him to pick him up from school today. The 12 year old did not recognize the driver or van and ran away. He advised he looked back and the van was stopped there yet and then drove north on Hansina Ave. The incident happened at around 1600. The 12 year old advised that he did not get a good look at the driver and only advised that he had a deeper voice. He advised that the van might possible be a Dodge Caravan with some dents in the front on the hood and the front passenger side wheel was rusty. Location: 100 Blk Front St. in Aurora, SD.

On the above date and time the Brookings County Sheriff’s Office took a report of a hit and run accident at the above location. It was found that sometime between Friday, 02/03/17 at 1700 to Saturday, 02/04/17 at 1245 someone struck a silver 2008 Chevy Impala causing some $1,400.00 worth of damage. The suspect vehicle is believed to be red in color as there was red paint transfer left behind on the victim’s vehicle. The cabinets were stolen sometime between Sunday, 01/15/17 until they were noticed on Monday, 01/30/17. The cabinets are valued at $2,500.00. On the above date and time the Bruce Fire Dept. & First Responders, Brookings Ambulance, and Brookings County Sheriff’s Office responded to a two vehicle injury accident at the above location. It was found that 18 year old Kyle Jensen was traveling south on 470th Ave. at the intersection of 201st St in his 1999 Ford Ranger. He advised that he was unable to stop, as the roadway was slippery and went through the stop sign and collided with a 2011 GMC Yukon that was driven by 50 year old Kalyn Gutormson that was traveling west on 201st St. Both vehicles were a total loss. Kyle Jensen was issued a citation for a stop sign violation. Kyle Jensen and the three other passengers from his vehicle, a 25 year old male from Estelline, an 18 year old male from Bruce, and a 13 year old female from Volga, were transported to the Brookings Hospital by the Brookings Ambulance with unknown injuries. The accident is under investigation with the Brookings County Sheriff’s Office.

On the above date and time the Brookings County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of tires that were slashed on a vehicle on Lincoln Lane in Volga. A total of 13 vehicles throughout the City of Volga had been found with slashed tires. It is believed to have occurred sometime between 6:30p.m. to 8:30p.m. on Tuesday, 01/24/17. Two male suspects were seen walking in the area of the vandalism, one was described as wearing a green or orange hooded sweat shirt and seen walking toward the high school. The exact amount of damage is unknown at this time but is believed to be several thousand dollars worth of damage. Location: Near intersection of 457th Ave. & 199th St. (Arlington, SD)

On the above date and time the Brookings County Sheriff’s Office, Badger Fire Dept., Estelline Fire Dept., and Estelline Ambulance responded to a shed on fire at the above location. It was found that a 60ft x 80ft metal machine shed had started on fire. The owner advised that a tractor was plugged in and he believed that to be the cause. Miscellaneous farm equipment and hay were lost in the fire. No injuries were reported. The total amount of loss including the shed is estimated at $175,000.00. The fire is under investigation with the Brookings County Sheriff’s Office.

It was found that a 37 year old male was unloading a 9mm hand gun when it accidently went off striking him. He was transported to the Brookings Hospital and later airlifted to Avera McKennen Hospital in Sioux Falls to be treated for his injury. Theft

Location: Rural Volga, SD

On the above date and time a cell phone tower company reported the theft of about 2 tons of copper wave cable. The cable was stolen off of a cell phone tower and out of a building that was broken into at the same location. Access was gained into the building using a key that was forcefully removed from a lock box near the door. The lights on the tower and a barb wire fence was also damaged. The copper wave cable was valued at approx. $20,000.00. The damage to the lights and the barb wire fence is estimated at $5,000.00. It is believed to have happened sometime between Saturday, 12/10/16 to when it was noticed on Friday, 12/16/16 at 1050. Kidnapping

Reported: Tuesday, 12/13/16 at 0137
Location: Rural residence south of Brookings.

On the above date and time the Brookings County Sheriff’s Office, Brookings Police Dept., and South Dakota Hwy Patrol responded to a reported kidnapping that started at the above location. A car chase ensued, ending on a township road southeast of Brookings. It was found that 17 year old male driver with a 23 year old male passenger were forced off of the roadway. They had a gun pointed at them. A shot was fired and a bullet hole was later found in the vehicle they had been in. The 17 year old was assaulted, physically struck in the face with the gun, causing a minor injury. The 17 year old victim was taken from the scene by the suspect. He was later released at a gas station located in central Sioux Falls, where he was safely taken into the custody of the Sioux Falls Police Dept. and later returned to his parents. A 20 year old suspect has been identified and warrants have been issued for his arrest for kidnapping, 2 counts of aggravated assault, and commission of a felony while armed with a firearm. The incident is under investigation by the Brookings County Sheriff’s Office.

On 12-06-16, beginning at about 9 AM, an extensive search of the Brush Lake shoreline began, with personnel from Brookings, Volga, Arlington, and Lake Preston fire departments participating. Also assisting was Codington County Search & Rescue with a remotely operated submersible vehicle. After hours of searching, both on foot, ATV’s, and with the underwater vehicle, the 2nd victim was not located. Weather conditions at the time were unfavorable, with high winds, cold temperatures, choppy water conditions with ice formation, all of which contributed to the difficulties of the search. The missing man is identified as 28 year old Thomas Hill of White, SD. Thomas was duck hunting with his brother, 23 year old Matthew Hill of Volga, SD, on Monday afternoon, when their boat capsized. The body of Matthew Hill and the capsized boat were found later that evening by searchers on the east shoreline. Their hunting dog was found alive, having swum to shore. The search has now been suspended indefinitely until further notice. It is presumed that Thomas Hill has perished, although his body has not been recovered.

On 12-05-16 around 6:22 PM, Brookings County Sheriff’s Office was notified of two male individuals who went duck hunting from a boat on Brush Lake, southeast of Arlington, SD. The two men, who are brothers, went hunting around 2-3 PM and were expected to return around 5:30-6PM. When the men failed to return on schedule, law enforcement was notified. The Brookings County Sheriff’s Office, Brookings Fire Department, Kingsbury County Sheriff’s Office, Arlington 1st Responders, Lake Preston Fire Department, Game Fish & Parks, Arlington and Lake Preston Ambulance responded. At approximately 8:10 PM, one of the men was found deceased, with the boat capsized nearby. The 2nd man has not yet been located. The search was suspended at about 10 PM due to adverse weather conditions and poor visibility. At this time the search has been suspended, but will be resumed at 9 AM this morning, 12-06-16.

On the above date and time the Estelline Fire Dept., Estelline Ambulance and Brookings County Sheriff’s Office responded to a shed that was on fire at the above location. Upon arrival it was found that the shed was 24 x 24 foot structure. There were 10 goats, several ducks, and approximately 100 square hay bales inside of the shed. The shed and bales were a complete loss and all of the livestock except two of the goats survived. The cause of the fire is believed to have started with a heat lamp. On the above date and time a rural Volga resident reported the theft of a 1967 Chevy Rally Sport Camaro that was parked at a vacant farm site. The reporting party advised that it was yellow in color but it is faded to a cream color over the years. The vehicle is not operational and is a restoration project. Tires are flat on the vehicle, the grill is missing, and both front fenders are primed near the headlights. The vehicle would have been trailered out of the area sometime between Sunday, November 13th to when it was found missing on Tuesday, 11/15/16 at 1625. The car is valued at $6,500.00. It was found that 23 year old Scott Roger Buysse was traveling east on 200th St. when his vehicle went off the south shoulder of the roadway. The vehicle came back onto the roadway where it rolled. Scott was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the vehicle. Scott died of his injuries at the scene of the accident. On the above date and time an employee of K&R Construction out of Sgt. Bluff, IA called and reported a theft of a 2015 Bobcat skid loader auger. It is believed that whoever stole it used another skid loader that they brought with them to remove it. Scam-Theft by deception
Reported: Tuesday, 11/01/16 at 0749
Location: Rural Bruce, SD

On the above date and time a rural Bruce resident reported being scammed out of an undisclosed amount of money. They advised that an individual stopped at their residence on Thursday, 10/27/16 and offered to give them a free quote to replace their lighting rods and cable. They agreed with the quote and the subject agreed to replace their lighting rods, and copper cable with aluminum cable. The subject came to the residence on Friday, 10/28/16 while they were gone and when the owners returned he advised them the project was completed and he was paid. He also advised that the shingles were bad and gave them a low estimate to replace the shingles. He asked for 30% down which was given to him.
On Monday, 10/31/16 they contacted a building inspector with Brookings County and it was found that nothing was replaced and that the subject had painted the existing copper cable to look like it was aluminum.

The subject 35 year old Bartholomew Jude Daley (Ft. Worth, TX) was later located at the East Cenex Zip Trip in Brookings by the Brookings Police Dept. It was found that Bartholomew had two warrants out of Texas for theft of property, and a warrant out of Kansas. He was taken into custody by the Brookings County Sheriff’s Office and is being held on those warrants. He also faces charges in Brookings County for grand theft by deception, failure to file contractor’s excise tax, door to door seller’s failure to inform buyer of right to cancel, and cancellation notice form to be furnished and filled in by door to door seller.

Vehicle Pursuit
Thursday, 10/27/16 at 1330
Location: 197th St. near 473rd Ave.

On the above date and time the South Dakota Hwy Patrol, South Dakota Game Fish and Parks, Hamlin County Sheriff’s Office, and Deuel County Sheriff’s Office were pursuing a vehicle. The pursuit started in Watertown (Codington County) and went through Hamlin County, Deuel County and then entered Brookings County. The suspect 18 year old Bret Arnold Davis (Sioux Falls, SD) was believed to be driving the vehicle and was wanted on a felony warrant out of Brookings County.

The suspect vehicle a 1995 Honda Civic was traveling eastbound on 197th Ave. in Brookings County and being pursued by the above Law Enforcement agencies.. At this same time a Deputy with the Brookings County Sheriff’s Office was traveling westbound on 197th St. near 473rd Ave. and attempted to get the suspect vehicle to stop. The suspect vehicle recklessly drove past the Deputy. Prior to this the South Dakota Hwy Patrol had deployed tire spikes and the suspect’s front and rear tires were damaged. The pursuit ended with the suspect going into the north ditch on 197th St. about ½ a mile west of 477th Ave. where he was taken into custody.

Bret Arnold Davis is in custody at the Brookings County Detention Center and is facing charges in Brookings County of aggravated eluding, reckless driving, driving on a suspended driver’s license, and substitution of license plates. He is being held on a $6000.00 cash bond. He also faces several charges in Deuel County, Hamlin County, and Codington County.

On the above date and time Aurora First Responders, Brookings Ambulance, and the Brookings County Sheriff’s Office responded to a two vehicle injury accident at the intersection of 480th Ave. and 215th St. It was found that Douglas Leroy Stein was traveling northbound on 480th Ave. in his 2011 Ford F150 and Peter Ben Johnson was traveling westbound on 215th St. when their vehicles collided at that uncontrolled intersection. It was found that Stein had failed to yield to his right at the intersection. They were both transported from the scene by the Brookings Ambulance to the Brookings Hospital. Douglas was later transported by Ambulance to Sanford Hospital in Sioux Falls, and Peter was airlifted to Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls with unknown injuries. The accident is under investigation with the Brookings County Sheriff’s Office and charges for failure to yield, and a seatbelt violation are pending against Douglas Stein.

Roll Over Accident (Injury)
Reported: Friday, 10/14/16 at 1915
Location: 482nd Ave. near 214th St.

Driver: Eric Stevens Age: 32
White, SD

Vehicle: 2010 Dodge Caliber Damge: $4,600.00
On the above date and time the Elkton Ambulance, Elkton First Responders, and Brookings County Sheriffs Office responded to a one vehicle rollover accident at the above location. It was found that the driver 32 year old Eric Stevens was traveling northbound on 482nd Ave. and lost control of his vehicle. The vehicle entered the west ditch and rolled. It was found that a medical condition may have attributed to the cause of the accident and the driver was seen at the scene by the Elkton Ambulance and later transported to the Brookings Hospital. The accident is under investigation with the Brookings County Sheriff’s Office.

Pursuit and recovery of stolen vehicle
Reported: Thursday, 10/13/16 at 0120
Location: Hwy 14 and Kasan Ave Volga, SD.

On the above date and time a deputy with the Brookings County Sheriff’s Office attempted to stop a vehicle at Hwy 14 and Kasan Ave in Volga for speeding. The vehicle fled and the deputy pursued. The pursuit reached speeds of 110 mph, and when the pursuit entered the City Limits of Brookings, it was terminated. The vehicle was then located abandoned a short time later in the 800 blk of 6th St. in Brookings. A search of the area was conducted and the suspects were located at 8th St. S. and Christine Ave. After a short foot pursuit the driver was apprehended, but a passenger from the pursuit fled on foot from the scene.

The driver was found to be a 14 year old male and the other suspect is a 17 year old male. It was discovered that they had escaped from a treatment facility (Our Home) in Huron where they had stolen the vehicle, a 2003 Cadillac Deville, from a private residence that was within a mile of the treatment facility. The 14 year old suspect is in custody and is facing charges of aggravated eluding, reckless driving, possession of a stolen vehicle, resisting arrest, obstructing law enforcement, and speeding. The 17 year old suspect is known but still at large. On the above date and time the Brookings County Sheriff’s Office took a report of a vandalism to a 2008 Mitsubishi passenger car that was parked at the Volga Community Center. The vehicle received scratches to the paint on both sides of the vehicle and a broken passenger side rear window. The damage occurred sometime between Saturday, 10/08/16 at 1900 to Sunday, 10/09/16 at 0200. The amount of damage is unknown at this time. On the above date and time a rural Brookings resident reported that someone broke into his locked home and stole some prescription medications. The burglary is believed to have happened when the residents were not home on Saturday, 10/08/16 between 1500 to 1630. The only thing stolen from the residence was prescription medication. There was no damage to the residence. Vehicle Burglary

On the above date and time a resident from the City of White reported that someone broke out the driver’s side window of the 2001 Chevy Suburban that was locked and parked in front of their residence. The owner found that a black and white wallet that had a debit card, credit card, checks, health insurance card, and driver’s license was stolen from inside the vehicle. The break in and theft occurred sometime between Tuesday, 10/04/16 at 0030 to when it was discovered this morning at 0700. The estimated damage to the window is $160.00. Combine Fire
Reported: Monday, 10/03/16 at 1600
Location: Field near 204th St. and 469th Ave.

On the above date and time the Bruce Fire Dept. and Brookings County Sheriff’s Office responded to a combine fire in a field on the northeast side of the above listed intersection. Upon arrival the Case 9120 Axial-Flow Combine was totally engulfed in flames. The Combine valued at $300,000.00 was a total loss and the Case 3162 Terra Flex 40 foot bean head was severely damaged if not totally lost. The bean head is valued at $60,000.00. The driver of the Combine advised he had just unloaded the Combine and was about to start again when he noticed the fire. The fire is under investigation with the Brookings County Sheriff’s Office, and Bruce Fire Dept.

Tractor Fire

On the above date and time the Elkton Fire Dept. and Brookings County Sheriff’s Office responded to a tractor that was on fire near the intersection of 220th St. and 484th Ave. Upon arrival the tractor a Case 500 was fully engulfed in flames. The Tractor was a total loss. The fire is believed to have started in the fuse box of the tractor. The fire is under investigation with the Brookings County Sheriff’s Office and Elkton Fire Dept.

Vehicle fire
Reported: Saturday, 10/01/16 at 1332
Location: 21817 478th Ave. (Aurora, SD)

On the above date and time the owner of a 2002 Ford Ranger pulling a trailer reported that he was operating it off of the roadway on his private property when he started to have mechanical problems with the vehicle. He looked in the engine compartment and noticed liquid coming from it. The liquid then caught fire and the vehicle became completely engulfed in flames. The vehicle was a complete loss and the trailer received very little damage. The incident is under investigation with the Brookings County Sheriff’s Office and Aurora Fire Dept.
