Theft
Reported: Tuesday, 11/22/16 at 1217
Location: The Ridge (Bruce, SD)

On the above date and time the owner of the Ridge in Bruce, SD reported that a sign was stolen at the driveway to the business. A 4x12 foot canvas sign on two sheets of plywood that read The Ridge. Bruce, SD. Coors Light. Voted Best Wings At Brookings Wingfest was stolen sometime between Monday, 11/21/16 at 2200 to when it was noticed on Tuesday, 11/22/16 at 1200. The cost to replace the sign is estimated at $100.00. Media Release - November 20, 2016

Vandalism
Reported: Sunday, 11/20/16 at 1033
Location: W 28th Ave. just south of 212th St.

On the above date and time a Brookings resident reported that her 2012 Chevy Cruse had been vandalized. She advised she had gotten the vehicle stuck on the afternoon of Friday, 11/18/16 at 1730 at the above location. She stated that when she returned the next day on Saturday, 11/19/16 at 1830 she found all of the windows had been broken out, the driver’s side door and been pried open, the mirrors were broke, both taillights were broke out, and there were several dents in the side of the vehicle. The damage is estimated at several thousand dollars. The incident is under investigation with the Brookings County Sheriff’s Office. Media Release - November 17, 2016

Fire
Reported: Thursday, 11/17/16 at 0557
Location: 19657 463rd Ave. (Bruce, SD)

On the above date and time the Estelline Fire Dept., Estelline Ambulance and Brookings County Sheriff’s Office responded to a shed that was on fire at the above location. Upon arrival it was found that the shed was 24 x 24 foot structure. There were 10 goats, several ducks, and approximately 100 square hay bales inside of the shed. The shed and bales were a complete loss and all of the livestock except two of the goats survived. The cause of the fire is believed to have started with a heat lamp. The fire is under investigation with the Brookings County Sheriff’s Office.

Media Release - November 15, 2016

Theft
Reported: Tuesday, 11/15/16 @ 1625
Location: 45834 206th St. (Volga, SD)

On the above date and time a rural Volga resident reported the theft of a 1967 Chevy Rally Sport Camaro that was parked at a vacant farm site. The reporting party advised that it was yellow in color but it is faded to a cream color over the years. The vehicle is not operational and is a restoration project. Tires are flat on the vehicle, the grill is missing, and both front fenders are primed near the headlights. The vehicle would have been trailered out of the area sometime between Sunday, November 13th to when it was found missing on Tuesday, 11/15/16 at 1625. The car is valued at $6,500.00. Media Release - November 11, 2016

Accident (Fatality)

Reported: Friday, 11/11/16 @ 0610
Location: 200th St. near 483rd Ave.

Driver: Scott Roger Buysse Age: 23
Marshall, MN.

Vehicle: 2004 Chevy Silverado Damage: Total loss.

On the above date and time White Fire and Rescue, White Ambulance, and the Brookings County Sheriff’s Office responded to a one vehicle rollover accident at the above location. It was found that 23 year old Scott Roger Buysse was traveling east on 200th St. when his vehicle went off the south shoulder of the roadway. The vehicle came back onto the roadway where it rolled. Scott was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the vehicle. Scott died of his injuries at the scene of the accident. The accident is under investigation with the Brookings County Sheriff’s Office.

Media Release - November 7, 2016

Theft
Reported: Monday, 11/07/16 at 1221
Location: I29 MP 146 (Construction site)

On the above date and time an employee of K&R Construction out of Sgt. Bluff, IA called and reported a theft of a 2015 Bobcat skid loader auger. The auger is 5 foot tall and weights some 200 lbs and was removed from a skid loader it was attached to. It is believed that whoever stole it used another skid loader that they brought with them to remove it. The theft occurred sometime between Friday, 11/04/16 at 1800 to when it was noticed on Monday, 11/07/16 at 1135. The auger is valued at $4,000.00. The theft is under investigation with the Brookings County Sheriff’s Office. Hit and run
Reported: Friday, 10/28/16 at 1211

On the above date and time the Brookings County Sheriff’s Office took a report of a 2016 Jeep Compass that received scratches in the paint on the driver’s side of the vehicle. The damage is believed to have occurred in the Lucky Dog Parking lot in Volga as it was parked there on Thursday, 10/27/16 between the hours of 1100 to 2100. Media Release - November 1, 2016

Scam-Theft by deception
Reported: Tuesday, 11/01/16 at 0749
Location: Rural Bruce, SD

On the above date and time a rural Bruce resident reported being scammed out of an undisclosed amount of money. They advised that an individual stopped at their residence on Thursday, 10/27/16 and offered to give them a free quote to replace their lighting rods and cable. They agreed with the quote and the subject agreed to replace their lighting rods, and copper cable with aluminum cable. The subject came to the residence on Friday, 10/28/16 while they were gone and when the owners returned he advised them the project was completed and he was paid. He also advised that the shingles were bad and gave them a low estimate to replace the shingles. He asked for 30% down which was given to him.
On Monday, 10/31/16 they contacted a building inspector with Brookings County and it was found that nothing was replaced and that the subject had painted the existing copper cable to look like it was aluminum.

The subject 35 year old Bartholomew Jude Daley (Ft. Worth, TX) was later located at the East Cenex Zip Trip in Brookings by the Brookings Police Dept. It was found that Bartholomew had two warrants out of Texas for theft of property, and a warrant out of Kansas. He was taken into custody by the Brookings County Sheriff’s Office and is being held on those warrants. He also faces charges in Brookings County for grand theft by deception, failure to file contractor’s excise tax, door to door seller’s failure to inform buyer of right to cancel, and cancellation notice form to be furnished and filled in by door to door seller.

Media Release - October 27, 2016

Vehicle Pursuit
Thursday, 10/27/16 at 1330
Location: 197th St. near 473rd Ave.

On the above date and time the South Dakota Hwy Patrol, South Dakota Game Fish and Parks, Hamlin County Sheriff’s Office, and Deuel County Sheriff’s Office were pursuing a vehicle. The pursuit started in Watertown (Codington County) and went through Hamlin County, Deuel County and then entered Brookings County. The suspect 18 year old Bret Arnold Davis (Sioux Falls, SD) was believed to be driving the vehicle and was wanted on a felony warrant out of Brookings County.

The suspect vehicle a 1995 Honda Civic was traveling eastbound on 197th Ave. in Brookings County and being pursued by the above Law Enforcement agencies.. At this same time a Deputy with the Brookings County Sheriff’s Office was traveling westbound on 197th St. near 473rd Ave. and attempted to get the suspect vehicle to stop. The suspect vehicle recklessly drove past the Deputy. Prior to this the South Dakota Hwy Patrol had deployed tire spikes and the suspect’s front and rear tires were damaged. The pursuit ended with the suspect going into the north ditch on 197th St. about ½ a mile west of 477th Ave. where he was taken into custody.

Bret Arnold Davis is in custody at the Brookings County Detention Center and is facing charges in Brookings County of aggravated eluding, reckless driving, driving on a suspended driver’s license, and substitution of license plates. He is being held on a $6000.00 cash bond. He also faces several charges in Deuel County, Hamlin County, and Codington County.

Intentional Damage/Vandalism

Location: 601 Samara Ave. Volga

On the above date and time a Volga resident reported that someone had broke out the back window of his 1997 Chevy Blazer. The cost to repair the window is estimated at $150.00. The window is believed to have been broken out with some sort of blunt object. It is believed to have happened sometime between Wednesday, 10/26/16 between 1830 to 2000. Location: 206th St. just east of 464th Ave.

On the above date and time a rural Bruce resident reported that someone had driven a vehicle
through a section of his fence at the above location. It is believed to have happened sometime
between Sunday, 10/16/16 at 1700 to when it was noticed on Tuesday, 10/25/16 at 1630. The
cost to repair the fence is estimated at $300.00. There were vehicle parts left at the scene that
identified the vehicle as a GM product. The hit and run is under investigation with the

Two Vehicle Accident (injury)

Reported: Wednesday, 10/19/16 at 0728
Location: 480th Ave. and 215th St.

Driver 1: Peter Ben Johnson Age: 50
Elkton, SD

Vehicle 1: 1995 Honda Accord LX Damage: Total Loss

Driver 2: Douglas Leroy Stein Age: 59

Vehicle 2: 2011 Ford F150 Damage: Total Loss

On the above date and time Aurora First Responders, Brookings Ambulance, and the Brookings County Sheriff’s Office responded to a two vehicle injury accident at the intersection of 480th Ave. and 215th St. It was found that Douglas Leroy Stein was traveling northbound on 480th Ave. in his 2011 Ford F150 and Peter Ben Johnson was traveling westbound on 215th St. when their vehicles collided at that uncontrolled intersection. It was found that Stein had failed to yield to his right at the intersection. They were both transported from the scene by the Brookings Ambulance to the Brookings Hospital. Douglas was later transported by Ambulance to Sanford Hospital in Sioux Falls, and Peter was airlifted to Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls with unknown injuries. The accident is under investigation with the Brookings County Sheriff’s Office and charges for failure to yield, and a seatbelt violation are pending against Douglas Stein.

Roll Over Accident (Injury)
Reported: Friday, 10/14/16 at 1915
Location: 482nd Ave. near 214th St.

Driver: Eric Stevens Age: 32
White, SD

Vehicle: 2010 Dodge Caliber Damge: $4,600.00
On the above date and time the Elkton Ambulance, Elkton First Responders, and Brookings County Sheriffs Office responded to a one vehicle rollover accident at the above location. It was found that the driver 32 year old Eric Stevens was traveling northbound on 482nd Ave. and lost control of his vehicle. The vehicle entered the west ditch and rolled. It was found that a medical condition may have attributed to the cause of the accident and the driver was seen at the scene by the Elkton Ambulance and later transported to the Brookings Hospital. The accident is under investigation with the Brookings County Sheriff’s Office.

Media Release - October 13, 2016

Pursuit and recovery of stolen vehicle
Reported: Thursday, 10/13/16 at 0120
Location: Hwy 14 and Kasan Ave Volga, SD.

On the above date and time a deputy with the Brookings County Sheriff’s Office attempted to stop a vehicle at Hwy 14 and Kasan Ave in Volga for speeding. The vehicle fled and the deputy pursued. The pursuit reached speeds of 110 mph, and when the pursuit entered the City Limits of Brookings, it was terminated. The vehicle was then located abandoned a short time later in the 800 blk of 6th St. in Brookings. A search of the area was conducted and the suspects were located at 8th St. S. and Christine Ave. After a short foot pursuit the driver was apprehended, but a passenger from the pursuit fled on foot from the scene.

The driver was found to be a 14 year old male and the other suspect is a 17 year old male. It was discovered that they had escaped from a treatment facility (Our Home) in Huron where they had stolen the vehicle, a 2003 Cadillac Deville, from a private residence that was within a mile of the treatment facility. The 14 year old suspect is in custody and is facing charges of aggravated eluding, reckless driving, possession of a stolen vehicle, resisting arrest, obstructing law enforcement, and speeding. The 17 year old suspect is known but still at large. On the above date and time the Brookings County Sheriff’s Office took a report of a vandalism to a 2008 Mitsubishi passenger car that was parked at the Volga Community Center. The vehicle received scratches to the paint on both sides of the vehicle and a broken passenger side rear window. The damage occurred sometime between Saturday, 10/08/16 at 1900 to Sunday, 10/09/16 at 0200. The amount of damage is unknown at this time. Location: 3250 Western Ave. S. Trailer #3 (Rural Brookings)

On the above date and time a rural Brookings resident reported that someone broke into his locked home and stole some prescription medications. The burglary is believed to have happened when the residents were not home on Saturday, 10/08/16 between 1500 to 1630. The only thing stolen from the residence was prescription medication. There was no damage to the residence. Vehicle Burglary

Location: 208 W. 5th St. (White, SD)

On the above date and time a resident from the City of White reported that someone broke out the driver’s side window of the 2001 Chevy Suburban that was locked and parked in front of their residence. The owner found that a black and white wallet that had a debit card, credit card, checks, health insurance card, and driver’s license was stolen from inside the vehicle. The break in and theft occurred sometime between Tuesday, 10/04/16 at 0030 to when it was discovered this morning at 0700. The estimated damage to the window is $160.00. Media Release - October 3, 2016

Combine Fire
Reported: Monday, 10/03/16 at 1600
Location: Field near 204th St. and 469th Ave.

On the above date and time the Bruce Fire Dept. and Brookings County Sheriff’s Office responded to a combine fire in a field on the northeast side of the above listed intersection. Upon arrival the Case 9120 Axial-Flow Combine was totally engulfed in flames. The Combine valued at $300,000.00 was a total loss and the Case 3162 Terra Flex 40 foot bean head was severely damaged if not totally lost. The bean head is valued at $60,000.00. The driver of the Combine advised he had just unloaded the Combine and was about to start again when he noticed the fire. The fire is under investigation with the Brookings County Sheriff’s Office, and Bruce Fire Dept.

Tractor Fire
Reported: Monday, 10/03/16 at 2037
Location: Field near 220th St. and 484th Ave.

On the above date and time the Elkton Fire Dept. and Brookings County Sheriff’s Office responded to a tractor that was on fire near the intersection of 220th St. and 484th Ave. Upon arrival the tractor a Case 500 was fully engulfed in flames. The Tractor was a total loss. The fire is believed to have started in the fuse box of the tractor. The fire is under investigation with the Brookings County Sheriff’s Office and Elkton Fire Dept.

Vehicle fire
Reported: Saturday, 10/01/16 at 1332
Location: 21817 478th Ave. (Aurora, SD)

On the above date and time the owner of a 2002 Ford Ranger pulling a trailer reported that he was operating it off of the roadway on his private property when he started to have mechanical problems with the vehicle. He looked in the engine compartment and noticed liquid coming from it. The liquid then caught fire and the vehicle became completely engulfed in flames. The vehicle was a complete loss and the trailer received very little damage. The incident is under investigation with the Brookings County Sheriff’s Office and Aurora Fire Dept.

Hit and Run.
Reported: Friday, 09/30/16 at 1800
Location: Construction site 213th St. and 475th Ave.

On the above date and time the Brookings County Sheriff’s Office took a report of a hit and run in the parking lot of a construction site near 213th St. and 475th Ave. A 2008 GMC Sierra pickup received damage to the passenger side rear quarter panel and taillight with an estimated damage amount of $2,000.00. The hit and run is believed to have occurred on Monday, September 26th, 2016 around 1600 hours. Farm accident with injury
Reported: Thursday, 09/29/16 at 1214
Location: 48514 Hwy 14 (Hilltop Dairy, Elkton, SD)

On the above date and time Elkton Ambulance, Brookings Ambulance, and the Brookings County Sheriff’s Office responded to a farm accident at Hilltop Dairy located at 48514 Hwy 14. It was found that 29 year old Isrrael Ramirez Santos, Elkton, SD, had been injured by a payloader while working on a silage pile. Twenty-nine year old Carlos Lopez-Jauregui, Flandreau, SD, was operating the payloader. Santos was transported by Ambulance to the Brookings Hospital and later airlifted to Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, with head injuries. The accident is under investigation with the Brookings County Sheriff’s Office.

Alcohol Sales Compliance Check
Wednesday, 09/28/16

A total of 9 businesses were checked in Brookings County.
3 businesses failed the compliance check and sold alcohol to a 19 year old buyer
The businesses that failed were Casey’s General Store in Volga, Corner Gas and Goodies in White, and the Elkton Municipal Lounge.

During the previous compliance check in July, 8 of the 9 businesses that were checked passed.

Theft

Reported: Saturday, 09/24/16 @ 1449
Location: 21079 1st Ave. (Bushnell, SD)

On the above date and time a Bushnell resident reported that someone entered their residence and stole the keys to their vehicle that was hanging on a hook in their residence. The owner advised that she also went out to their vehicle and found that someone had went through it but nothing was missing except the keys to their vehicle and other miscellaneous keys, which were attached to the key chain. The theft is believed to have occurred sometime between Saturday, 09/24/16 at 0600 to when it was noticed on Saturday, 09/24/16 at 0730. The theft is under investigation with the Brookings County Sheriff’s Office. Location: 465th Ave. 1.4 S. of 212th St.

Driver: Iris Kelly Schwartz Age: 21
Volga, SD

Vehicle: Pontiac G6 Damage: Total loss

On the above date and time the Volga Fire Dept., Brookings Ambulance, and Brookings County Sheriff’s Office responded to a one vehicle injury accident at the above location. It was found that 21 year old Iris Kelly Schwartz was traveling southbound and lost control of the vehicle. The vehicle went through the west ditch, through a fence and gate, and into a tree belt where the vehicle came to rest. The driver was taken to the Brookings Hospital by the Brookings Ambulance with unknown injuries. The vehicle was a total loss. The accident is under investigation with the Brookings County Sheriff’s Office.

On the above date and time a Deputy with the Brookings County Sheriff’s Office located a damaged open door at the Volga City Auditorium. It is believed that the damage occurred sometime between Sunday, 09/18/16 from 1800 to 2000. The damage was found to have occurred from the inside of the building. The cost to repair the door and frame is estimated at $1,000.00. Theft
Reported: Wednesday, 09/14/16 @ 1543
Location: Holiday Station (422 E. Hwy 14, Volga, SD)

On the above date and time the Holiday Station in Volga called and reported an undisclosed amount of cash that was stolen from a Video Lottery machine in the Casino area. The theft occurred on Monday, 09/12/16 at 0732. The suspect gained entry into one of the lottery machines by using some sort of key where he then removed the undisclosed amount of cash, shut the machine and locked it back up. The suspect is a male believed to be 5’3” to 5’4” wearing a black hoodie, black pants and what appeared to be a black cap. Fire
Reported: Sunday, 09/11/16 at 1245
Location: 306 Park Ave. (Sinai, SD)

On the above date and time the Sinai Fire Dept., Arlington Fire Dept., Volga Fire Dept., Brookings Ambulance, and Brookings County Sheriff’s Office responded to a residential fire at the above location. It was found that the owner of the home had been using a smoker in the garage. He advised that he heard a noise from the garage and opened the door to find smoke in the garage. The owner got his son and the family dog out of the residence. The owner advised he then called to report it and found that it had already been reported by a neighbor. The home and its contents are a total loss. The estimated loss of the home and contents is approximately $200,000.00 dollars. The fire is under investigation with the Sinai Fire Dept. and Brookings County Sheriff’s Office.

Driver: Marvin A Ravera Cardoza Age: 22

Vehicle: 2000 Ford Explorer Damage: Total loss

On the above date and time the Volga Fire Dept., Brookings Ambulance, and Brookings County Sheriff’s Office responded to a one vehicle rollover accident with injury at the above location. It was found that the driver Marvin A. Ravera Cardoza was traveling east when the vehicle crested a hill. The vehicle Marvin was driving was on the wrong side of the road. The driver swerved to the right and the vehicle entered the south ditch where it rolled. The driver was thrown from the vehicle. The driver was transported to the Brookings Hospital by the Brookings Ambulance. The driver is facing charges of reckless driving, no insurance, no valid driver’s license, and failure to use a seatbelt. The accident is under investigation with the Brookings County Sheriff’s Office.

Burglary
Reported: Tuesday, 08/23/16 at 1722
Location: 21270 466th Ave. (Rural Volga, SD)

On the above date and time the Brookings County Sheriff’s Office took a report of a burglary at the above location. The owner of the property reported that within the last two weeks someone had stolen some 20 old vehicle batteries, and 4 radiators from scrap cars located on the property. He advised that he had not reported this as the value that was stolen was minimal.

He stated that today, Tuesday, 08/23/16 he had noticed that the shop had been broken into. The door had been forced open causing damage to the wood frame, and deadbolt. The owner found that 3 more radiators were stolen from inside the shop. The burglary to the shop occurred sometime between Sunday, 08/21/16 at 1900 to when it was noticed and reported on Tuesday, 08/23/16. The damage to the door and value of items stolen is unknown at this time. On the above date and time the Brookings County Sheriff’s Office took a report of two 11R25 Bridgestone Tires on Aluminum Rims stolen from a Semi Truck. The Semi-Truck was parked on private property just west of Volga on the north side of Hwy 14, where the owner was trying to sell the Semi-Truck. The theft occurred sometime between Sunday, 08/14/16 to when it was noticed on Tuesday, 08/16/16. The tires and rims are valued at $900.00 per set. Accident (injury)
Reported: Friday, 08/12/16 at 1635
Location: Broadway and Lovejoy LN (Aurora, SD)

Driver: Tyrone C. Ijeh Age: 49
Montrose, NY

Vehicle: 2009 Harley Davison Motorcycle. Damage: 800.00

On the above date and time the Aurora First Responders, Brookings Ambulance, and Brookings County Sheriff’s Office responded to a one vehicle accident with a motorcycle at the intersection of Broadway and Lovejoy Lane in Aurora, SD. It was found that the driver 49 year old Tyrone C. Ijeh had been traveling west on Lovejoy Lane and had stopped at the stop sign at Broadway. He attempted to turn south on Broadway and turned to sharp and tipped the motorcycle over, causing some $800.00 to the motorcycle. Tyrone was transported to the Brookings Hospital by the Brookings Ambulance with unknown injuries. Tyrone was not wearing a helmet and was found to not have a driver license endorsement to operate a motorcycle, which he was issued a citation for. The accident is under investigation with the Brookings County Sheriff’s Office.

Media Release - August 8, 2016

Accident ( Hit & Run )
Reported: 8-8-16 @ 0735
Location: 468th AVE. & 218th ST.

On the above date and time the Brookings County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a vehicle that had driven through a fence and soybean field. A 911 sign and a sign belonging to ITC were also found damaged at that location. It was found that an unknown suspect vehicle was traveling east on 218th St. and went through the intersection striking the posts. The vehicle then drove on some private property to the east of that intersection and back onto 468th Ave. heading north where the driver lost control of the vehicle and entered the west ditch. The vehicle then went through the fence and into the soybean field, causing some $1,000.00 damage to the fence and soybean field. The damage to the 911 sign and post is estimated at $50.00, and the damage to the ITC sign and post is estimated at $165.00. The hit and run is believed to have happened sometime between Sunday, 08/07/16 at 2000 to when it was noticed on Monday, 08/08/16 at 0700. Injury accident (Semi vs horse and rider)

Reported: Sunday, 08/07/16 at 2138
Location: ½ mile east of 469th Ave. on 216th St.

Driver: Bradley Eugene Nelson Age: 55
Brookings, SD

Vehicle: 2005 Freightliner Semi-Truck pulling 1976 trailer. Damaged trailer: $5,000.00

On the above date and time the Brookings Ambulance and Brookings County Sheriff’s Office
responded to an injury accident involving a semi and a man riding a horse. It was found that a
semi driven by 55 year old Bradley Eugene Nelson was traveling eastbound on 216th St.
Deputies were advised that 29 year old Carl Moberg of Brookings was riding horse with a friend
when his horse became spooked and started to back onto the roadway where it was struck by the
semi’s trailer. The horse was killed upon impact and Carl was thrown from the horse. Carl was
transported to the Brookings Hospital by the Brookings Ambulance where he was later airlifted
to Sanford Hospital in Sioux Falls, with unknown injuries. The accident is under investigation
with the Brookings County Sheriff’s Office.

Location: 411 E. 1st St., Volga, SD. (Volga Laundromat).

On the above date and time the Brookings County Sheriff’s Office took a report of damage to the
coin operated washing machines. It was found that the suspect or suspects attempted to use
some sort of tool to pry open the locks, but they were unable to gain entry into the coin boxes.
The amount of damage is unknown at this time. The time frame is believed to have been
approximately one month since the coin boxes were emptied. Anyone with any information

On the above date and time a resident of Bruce reported a theft of a firearm from his residence. The theft occurred sometime between 7-29-16 and 8-1-16. The gun is described as a Beretta 3032 Tom Cat .32 caliber semi-automatic handgun. There were no signs of forced entry into the residence. The estimated value of the gun is $465. The theft is under investigation with the sheriff’s office.

Location: 100 Blk of Jefferson Ave. and 500 Blk of Oak Ave. (Volga, SD)

On the above date and time the Brookings County Sheriff’s Office took a report of vehicle’s and houses being egged and vehicle’s having images drawn on them with mustard. The homes and vehicles did not received any physical damage but a garden in the 100 blk of Jefferson Ave. in Volga had plants, and fencing destroyed.

The resident in the 500 Blk of Oak Ave. heard an egg strike her home at 0030 on Sunday, 07/31/16 but did not actually notice what it was until she noticed it on the residence at 1300. It is unknown when the incidents happened on the 100 Blk of Jefferson Ave but is believed to be related. Location: 207th St. and 471st Ave. (Rural Brookings)

Driver: Jonathan Zachary Ashburn Age: 20
Brookings, SD

Injured passenger: Elizabeth Hayley Hinchliffe Age: 19
Brookings, SD

Vehicle: 2001 Chevy Malibu Damage: Total loss.

On the above date and time a rural Brookings resident that lives near the above location called dispatch and advised that an injured female that had been involved in an automobile accident had walked to their residence.

The Brookings Ambulance and Deputies from the Brookings County Sheriff’s Office responded.
It was found that the above vehicle was traveling westbound on 207th St and did not stop for the stop sign at 471st Ave. After crossing 471st Ave. the driver of the vehicle 20 year old Jonathan Zachary Ashburn lost control on the gravel road and entered the south ditch sideways. The vehicle then struck a driveway access and vaulted over the driveway and then rolled onto the driver’s side of the vehicle.

The driver 20 year old Jonathan Zachary Ashburn was transported by the Brookings Ambulance to the Brookings Hospital where he was later airlifted to Sanford Hospital in Sioux Falls with unknown but serious injuries.

The passenger 19 year old Elizabeth Hayley Hinchliffe was also transported by the Brookings Ambulance to the Brookings Hospital where she was later transferred by Ambulance to Sanford Hospital in Sioux Falls with unknown but serious injuries.

The accident is under investigation with the Brookings County Sheriff’s Office.
