Continued Intentional Damage to Vehicles

Occurred: Sometime between 7/21/2022 9:30PM and 7/22/2022 11:46AM

Location: 200blk Railway St, Bruce or the 300Blk Industrial Dr, Volga

Vehicle: 2019 Chevy Silverado

On the above date and time, the Brookings County Sheriff’s Office took another report of a vehicle’s lug nuts being loosened. It was found the vehicle was being driven to Rutland by the owner when they noticed the vehicle was having issues. The owner was able to determine all but two of the vehicle’s lug nuts had been removed from one wheel and the two remaining lug nuts were damaged. This incident is believed to have occurred in one of the two above listed locations. The estimated cost to repair the vehicle is $700.

These incidents appear to happen in infrequent intervals and are occurring in different geographic locations. The Brookings County Sheriff’s Office is seeking the assistance all county home and business owners with camera systems to periodically check their recordings, especially at night, for suspicious activity. If activity is observed, please call Dispatch at (605)692-2113. A deputy will be sent to your residence with either a thumb drive or recordable DVD to obtain a copy of the activity. If you are not familiar with viewing recordings you are also encouraged to call the Brookings County Sheriff’s Office, (605)696-8300, to schedule a deputy meeting with you who can assist with your specific system.

As a safety precaution, the Brookings County Sheriff’s Office is requesting the motoring public to ensure the safety of their vehicle prior to entering the roadway. Tires and fasteners should be checked for damage, wear and tampering. If you do find damage which may have been intentional please call dispatch, 605-692-2113 and a deputy or officer will meet with you.
