On the above date and time, the Brookings County Sheriff’s Office, Brookings Police Department, Brookings Fire Department and South Dakota Department of Transportation responded to semi vs semi collision at the above location. It was found Unit #1 was turning eastbound from 467th Ave and was waiting for traffic when the rear trailer was struck by Unit #2 who was traveling westbound. This collision caused the second trailer of Unit #1 to tip onto its side. The trailer was loaded with approx. 50,000lbs of powdered cement. Unit #2 continued through the collision and jackknifed into the median. Recovering both vehicles from the scene required both westbound lanes to be closed for approx. two hours and one eastbound lane for approx. three hours. The operator of Unit #1 was charged with careless driving. This incident remains under investigation with the Brookings County Sheriff’s Office.
