Posted on February 17, 2022 at 3:50 PM by Michelle Delaney

Occurred: 2/16/2022 at 2:15PM

Location: US14/466th Ave

Driver: Philipp Wiebe, 31 of Winkler, Manitoba

Vehicle: 2013 Peterbuilt Semi with Timpte bottom dump trailer

On the above date and time, the Brookings County Sheriff’s Office, Volga Fire Department and Brookings County Emergency Management responded to the above location for a semi rollover. The truck had just departed Volga after loading with soybean meal and fuel. The driver told responding crews he heard a loud bang from the passenger side and was pulled into the right guardrail where the truck and trailer entered the ditch and rolled onto its side. Once the truck rolled, fuel began to leak from one of the two tanks. Approx. one hundred gallons of diesel entered a drainage ditch, which was directly beneath the rolled truck. Brookings County Emergency Management did respond and coordinated the cleanup to the fuel. Crews utilized a grain vacuum from a nearby business to remove the soybean meal prior to it being towed from the scene. The driver was uninjured in the rollover. This incident caused approx. $93,700 damage to the truck and $15,000 damage to replace the guardrail. The accident remains under investigation with the Brookings County Sheriff’s Office.
